How to Perform Traceability in Visure

Traceability is essential in requirements management to ensure that every requirement is connected to related elements, such as test cases, risks, or specifications. Visure provides a powerful and flexible way to create traceability links between different types of items across documents. Follow these steps to establish traceability in your project.

Step 1: Connect Documents with a Link Type in the Data Model

Before you can create traceability links between elements, the documents where those elements reside must be connected through a Link Type in the Data Model.

What is a Link Type?

A Link Type defines the kind of relationship between elements in two different document types. For example, you might create a link type called "verifies" to connect Requirements to Test Cases.

How to Add a Link Type:

  1. Go to Data Models.
  2. Create a Data Model.
  3. Select the documents you want to connect (e.g., System Requirements and Test Cases).
  4. Create a new Link Type.
  5. Clicking Add Link Type.
  6. Naming the link (e.g., "Verified by," "Implemented by").
  7. Choosing the source and target document types.
  8. Save the Data Model.

Note: If you don't have a link type yet, you can create one directly when setting up your data model. This ensures that your documents can be linked for traceability.

Step 2: Create Traceability Links Between Items

Once your documents are connected via a Link Type, you can begin creating traceability links between individual elements.

Methods to Create Links:

Option 1: Right-Click Method

  • Open the document where your source item is located.
  • Right-click on the item you want to start linking from.
  • Select Start Link.
  • Navigate to the document containing your target item.
  • Right-click on the item and select End Link.

Option 2: Traceability Panel

  • Open the Traceability Panel (usually found in the right sidebar).
  • Drag and drop items from the list into the traceability area to link them.
  • You can view and manage existing links here as well.

Step 3: Visualize Traceability

After creating links, you can easily visualize and analyze them through different tools:

  • Traceability Matrix: Provides a grid view showing all links between elements.
  • Traceability Tree: Displays hierarchical relations for a selected item.
  • Suspect Links: Automatically identify changes in linked items that may affect other elements.

Step 4: Maintain and Review Links

Maintaining traceability is an ongoing process:

  • Regularly review suspect links.
  • Ensure new items are properly linked.
  • Use filters and views to focus on specific traceability paths.
